We had a wonderful week learning about each other in our All
About Me unit! The Pre-K kiddos are
learning the flow of the classroom and are transitioning smoothly from one
activity to the next. I am impressed to
see how quickly they adapt and are ready for learning and action!
In Morning Meeting, I introduced the ‘Build your rainbow’
chart. We read a variety of books about
how we can be safe and make smart choices in the classroom, recess, and lunchroom. Every time I catch a child making a good
choice they get to pick the next color piece of the rainbow. This reinforces smart choices and the kiddos
really start to connect with the rainbow through the next couple of weeks. We read a few stories such as, ABC I Like Me!, A My Name is Alice, and I
like me! by Jamie Lee Curtis. Together we made a list about our unique and
similar characteristics. The kiddos had
a chance to create their own pictures in centers.
Learning Centers
Free choice- The children are getting more comfortable
learning the morning routine and choosing their own table toy or activity to
get started for the day. This part of the day really allows the children to
socialize and problem solve with one another. Next week I will introduce the
language, Bugs and Wishes to the children.
Language Arts-The children used foam letters to spell their
names. Also, they created a project
based on the story, A My Name is Alice. They created a self-portrait looking at
their hair, eye, and skin color. The
children started to pick up on similarities in appearance with friends, “Look!
I have curly hair too!” These pictures
will be displayed on the inside bulletin board.
Next week, the children will match a variety of pictures to the same beginning
sound as their name.
Also, we played a game of Friend Bingo! I encourage them to
use each others names, so they can start to call each other by name.
Spanish- Colors Week! The children created an art project using a variety of colored tissue paper.
Fun on the playground!
Next week, we will begin our Journal and sign-in folders and
continue incorporating math and fine motor centers.
Reminders:
Picture Day- Tuesday, September 13. Please have your child
dressed and ready to go in the morning before they get to school.
