We had a fantastic trip to the Apollo Theater, downtown
Chicago, to see the play, Diary of a
Worm, Spider and Fly! The kiddos
were troopers and great listeners during the performance.
The theme this week was based on the stories, Diary of a Fly, Diary of Spider and Diary of Worm by Doreen Cronin.
For Art, the Pre-k kids painted with worms (noodles). The goal was to find the mystery color. We learned about what two primary colors
mixed would form a secondary color. They had fun mixing colors and getting
messy!
Also, we discussed the characters in the stories; Spider,
Worm, Fly, Ant, and the Boy and what roles they played. The children picked their favorite character
and made a puppet.
After seeing the show, the Pre-K kiddos were asked to
journal about their favorite part of the play.
We had a variety of answers that included- “My favorite part was when
there were flashing lights on stage and the story characters came to life and
started to dance! Also, “Worm was my favorite character because he had no legs like
spider. Spiders have eight legs. “
For the fine motor center, the children used rigatoni
noodles to string together making a worm necklace.
Fun with the 5th grade reading buddies.
Spanish- The children played animal bingo and learned how to say clothing items in Spanish!
The children enjoying playing outside with friends.
