Catch Me if You Can!

What an exciting week diving into our Gingerbread thematic unit!  We read a variety of gingerbread stories including: The Gingerbread Cowboy, The Gingerbread Girl, The Gingerbread Boy, and The Gingerbread Friends.  The PK kiddos enjoyed these stories and liked predicting the ending of each story!

Here is a look at our week!

Language Arts- We read a story called, “Where is the Gingerbread Man.”  The kiddos cut out mini gingerbread and listened to the positional words in the story.  They had to correctly glue the gingerbread under, over, in between, next to and above different characters in the story. We really focused on following directions and our listening skills! They did a great job and colored when they were finished.
Math- The children counted pom poms with one to one correspondence and added these pieces to their gingerbread houses!

Art- The children decorated gingerbreads with various materials such as; pom poms, sequins, pipe cleaners, foam shapes, and markers.  Also, they made snowman out of shaving cream and glue and had fun decorating.

Journals- The prompt was, ‘What would you do if you were a gingerbread man?’  The kiddos worked on adding shapes to their pictures.  There were many stories and they were sure to include the fox from the stories we read.
Circle time- We met our zoo friends Pee Wee Penguin and Queeny Quail.  Ask your child what these friends say!  Also, we love to move our bodies and sing and dance to different Go noodle songs.

Spirit Week Fun!

What a week! The PK kiddos were excited to celebrate Spirit Week by dressing in pajamas, wearing silly hats and participating in crazy hair day!  We even got to attend the all school pep rally at the end of the week to cheer and support our friends.

Language Arts- The children did a making words activity using pictures and magnetic letters. We practiced stretching out our words to hear each letter sound. Also, we read a story called “A Park” and learned the popcorn work ‘A’. We finished our groups with shaving cream. This is a great sensory activity and the kiddos can write letters, names, and pictures. They love getting their hands messy!

Math- Counted and sorted by colors with unifix cubes. Also, the PK kiddos demonstrated simple addition with the cubes. The final activity was a number bingo game.

Art- The children decorated Roycemore pennants with pom-poms, stickers, sequins and a variety of materials. Also, they painted their self-portraits. It is fun to look back at the previous month and see the progression and new details they add to their pictures each time.
Fine motor- We made blue and yellow pom-poms. We practiced using scissors and cutting with our thumbs up following the line. All of the art projects are displayed on the inside bulletin board.

Independent center- Building legos on the light table.

The snow is finally here! I know many have been waiting for the much anticipated first snowfall of the year.  The children were looking forward to it as well!  Please keep in mind we will be going outside to play in the cold weather, so please bring hats, gloves, boots and snow pants when the time comes!

This week we discussed the meaning of Thanksgiving by reading many stories and watching a video.  We made a list together with pictures of what we were thankful for.  Here is a look at our activities this week!

Language Arts-  We read a story titled, Thanksgiving is.. The kiddos circled the popcorn word ‘is’ and  ‘I’.  We continue to use our reading finger as we track the letters and words.  Also, we finished the prompt; ‘I am thankful for’ and wrote the beginning sounds or word!  These pictures are on display in the classroom next to the handprint turkeys.

Math-  The kiddos worked with partners and the goal was to independently sequence the numbers 1 to10.  Next, they built towers with unifix cubes next to the corresponding number.  They did a great job!

Also, we cut and glued Thanksgiving pictures to complete numerous patterns.

Fine Motor- The children counted close pins to match the number on the turkey’s body.

Art- Handprint turkeys! The kiddos were all smiles when they could get messy with the paint.
