This week we learned about friendship and ways to be a good friend. We read many stories to show a variety of roles in social situations. The stories we read this week centered around the book, The Rainbow Fish.

Centers

Language Arts- Picture and letter sort.

Math- The children played a fishing game where they picked a number and had to feed their fish to correspond with that number. Also, the children created their own word problem stories practicing the skills of subtraction and addition.  They enjoyed telling me their creative stories as well and challenged me to solve them!

Art- This week the kiddos made two art projects focusing on friendship characteristics.  Using colorful tissue paper, they made a rainbow fish similar to the one in the story.  The children each shared one good trait about another friend.

Next, the children practiced their fine motor skills cutting out petals to make a friendship flower.  On the petals, they wrote or dictated what being a good friend looks like.

Fine motor- Weaving and cutting exercises

 Music

P.E- The children are practicing a variety of skills (tumbling, balancing and core strength) getting ready for their upcoming Palio Show on Friday, March 17.

What a fabulous week the PK kiddos had celebrating friendship and Valentine’s Day. Also, I enjoyed meeting with all of you for conferences and discussing your child’s progress and goals!  Here is a look inside our week!

Morrigan’s mother came into to read a story and poem titled, The Map of My Heart. The children brainstormed special people and memories important to them to draw on their heart.  They each took turns sharing their ideas!

Valentine’s Day Fun :)

Decorating their bags with a variety of stickers, feathers, paper and pictures.

Passing out Valentines to friends was a highlight for the children.  They had fun finding their friend's name and were proud to hand out their notes.

Decorating cookies with loads of goodies.

This week the Pre-K children continued learning about community helpers!

In morning meeting, the children completed an activity where they had to match the tool to the correct community helper.

Centers

Language Arts-  Letters in a cookie jar activity.  Also, a few of the children continued through the Bob book series.

The children cut and colored tools to add to their tool belt.

Community helpers bingo was a hit!

The kiddos stamped, colored and sealed mail at our very own post office!

Our 5th grade reading buddies visited the classroom and we decorated valentines. They worked so well together crafting and writing a valentines message.

We celebrated the 100th day of school by collecting 100 items and displayed them at the 100th Day Museum!
