The Pre-K children had a blast these past two weeks reading
Piggie and Elephant stories and the Pigeon series by Mo Willems. The favorite stories of the week were, I Broke My Trunk!, Elephants Can’t Dance!, and There
Is a Bird on My Head. We enjoyed the
humor in these stories and looked closely for the variety of expressions from
the characters, Piggie and Elephant. Ask
your child this week if they can tell you their favorite part of a story.
Thank you for coming to our Palio show to support the children and see the tremendous progress
they have made with a variety of gross motor skills! Here are many pictures
from the event:
Centers
Circle Time- Dancing
to the song, A Tooty Ta and having a
blast!
Language Arts-
First, the children did a picture sort based on the beginning letter sound
‘E’. They listened to the sound and
decided if the picture began with that letter.
Many children did this independently and this is great to see!
Also, a more challenging task for a few was an activity
called, ‘Say it, read it, build it, and write it. They used magnetic letters to build the
words. A few children were able to
successfully blend the CVC words together to read them!
Next, we read the story, Knuffle
Bunny and the kiddos created a story of their own. In the story, the backgrounds are real
pictures and the characters are cartoons.
The children used Ipads to take pictures around the school. This was the backdrop for their story. They put themselves in the scene and we
brainstormed together a story. These
pictures can be seen on the outside bulletin board.
Art- The children
made their own Piggie or Elephant hat.
They worked carefully to cut the ears for their character and added a
face too!
Also, they made the character, Pigeon from many of the
stories.
Math- Based on
the story, There Is a Bird on My Head,
the children rolled dice and counted how many birds could fit on top of
Elephants head. These pictures are displayed inside the classroom.
Also, the children counted legos to build a tower for their
trucks. Many children wanted to see how
high they could make their tower!
P.E-
Free choice- We used recycled materials to paint! Also, we
made necklaces using small pony beads.
Many of the children wanted to make necklaces to give to their siblings
and friends :)
The kiddos had fun dressing up in costumes in the dramatic
play area.
Our first grade buddies came to visit and share their
Writer’s Workshop stories. The PK
children did a nice job listening when the 1st graders read.
